Grants & Funding

Bring worthy work and committed support into the same conversation.

PCS considers aligned project requests, fiscal sponsorship inquiries, grant relationships, and major gifts with realistic expectations and board oversight.

For projects and community groups

Request project consideration

Tell PCS about a sustainability need in the Piedmont region. We can consider modest direct support, collaboration, charitable project development, or fiscal sponsorship depending on mission fit, leadership, risk, and capacity.

  • A defined public or charitable benefit
  • A responsible project lead and realistic scope
  • A budget, timeline, location, and permission to act
  • Willingness to report outcomes and use funds only as approved

For grantmakers and donors

Fund practical regional work

PCS welcomes conversations with foundations, businesses, donor-advised funds, and individuals seeking accountable sustainability work. Support may strengthen PCS generally or, through written terms, advance a suitable project or program.

  • General operating and organizational capacity
  • Agricultural education center planning
  • Education, food systems, and demonstration work
  • Program sponsorship and in-kind professional help

Fiscal sponsorship

A charitable home is oversight, not a pass-through.

PCS may serve as fiscal sponsor for an aligned project when the arrangement advances PCS's mission and can be responsibly supervised. PCS must retain discretion and control over charitable funds, approve expenditures, receive suitable reports, and document the relationship in writing.

Review considers leadership, public benefit, budget, insurance and legal risk, fundraising plan, reporting capacity, conflicts of interest, and the administrative work required. Fees and responsibilities would be defined before acceptance.

Project pathway

Share a sustainability need

PCS has limited unrestricted funds and has not historically operated a standing grant program. Requests are reviewed by the board as capacity allows. Submission is the beginning of a conversation, not a promise of funding or sponsorship.

Useful attachments include a project summary, working budget, site permission, timeline, and any partner commitments.

What PCS can consider

Mission-aligned work in sustainability education, land and food systems, resilient communities, practical demonstrations, and related public-benefit activity in the Piedmont region.

How review works

The volunteer board reviews requests as capacity allows. Small requests may move faster; larger or higher-risk work requires more evidence, independent review, and written controls.

Restrictions and reporting

Restricted gifts are accepted only in writing for an approved purpose. Project leaders must document expenditures, outcomes, and material changes.

What submission does not do

An inquiry does not create a grant, partnership, fiscal sponsorship, agency relationship, or permission to represent PCS.
